I just wanted to drop a little note of encouragement and a reminder that’s close to my heart: being a fan is such a fantastic way to connect with the people you admire and want to learn from. Whether you’re diving into social media in midlife or just stepping into new rooms, remember this: being someone’s genuine fan is an amazing energy exchange.
When you show up, consume their content, buy their products, hop onto their email list, share their work, and just BE excited about what they’re doing, you’re putting out the kind of energy that makes real relationships happen. It’s not about immediately asking for something—it’s about giving first, showing up with appreciation, and letting that relationship grow naturally.
Trust me, I’ve often felt like the smallest fish in the room. I think that’s how it’s supposed to work too, if we’re the only one in the room doing new things and pushing outside comfort zones then we definitely need a new room!! But being a fanmeans you get to listen, learn, and grow without pressure. And eventually, people notice. They feel that authentic support. And if you ever want to be on someone’s podcast or partner up, starting out by being their biggest cheerleader is the truest form of support. It’s a game changer.
So, let’s stop listening to the doubt that sometimes sneaks in after 40 and just remember: being a fan is a beautiful, genuine way to start those connections. And anything less? Well, it can just get left in the dust.
