You went to a networking event 👏….Now What?!

How do you connect to the people at the event on social media without sounding salesy or fake??

When I moved from California to Boise I figured out a pretty great way to connect to amazing local business owners with zero ick factor.  I am sharing this easy way to connect so you can build your circle of influence and grow your business network.  I am warning you that you may make some pretty awesome friendships with these tips too!

When you go to a networking event, have a goal for yourself to talk to 3 new people.  Then when you are done you can beeline out of there and go home.  I don’t know about you but meeting new people can be nerve wracking and stressful.  I always have an exit strategy and home is where I long to be! Once you are home and in your jammies or the next morning while drinking coffee make sure to add photos to your stories on FB or Instagram and tag any of the businesses that were vendors and especially the location of the event.

If the event handed out a list of the attendees pull that out and look up the people you had conversations with on social media.

  • Go to their account, leave a comment or like a post.  Now slide into their DM’s and leave a message.  Something like.
  • “It was great to talk with you last night. I love that you know my friend Susan.  She is the best!”
  • If the event had a speaker, leave a comment like
  • “I heard you speak last night and now I am really motivated to use email marketing! Thanks for the great insight.”
  • If there is a goodie bag or food vendors try this
  • “Thank you for the amazing cookie from last night’s event.  It did not survive the ride home.  Delicious!!”

Everyone loves to be noticed and seen. Now is not the time to sell.  Now is the time to connect.  Follow them on social media.  I have found the combination of meeting in real life AND also connecting on social media is where the deeper friendships, collaborations and referrals happen.  Are you going to try it?

She squeezed me tight and, through tears, said, “I can’t believe you’re leaving me.” I started to laugh, “Technically, you left me. And that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.” Dropping my second kid off at college last week was hard and good. If I can share the most...
